While visiting friends Richard and Dee in Congleton over the bank holiday I discovered that meteor astronomy (shooting stars) was a major area of research at Jodrell Bank for the first few years.
When it was constructed in the 1950s this was the world’s largest steerable radio telescope (currently 3rd largest).
‘anyone who is interested in things out of this world’ should visit: http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/jodcast/ for all the latest news.
It was indeed very impressive, and slightly weird to think of all the things that we can’t see being captured in this way. looking at waves of energy that are like light but not light!
